10 Tips to Save Money (and the Environment too...)
Although the leaves might be changing colour it's still a great time to think green. Here are 10 tips to save on your energy costs which will put money in your pocket...
1. Lower your thermostat - as little as 1 to 3 degrees makes a difference in energy consumption.
2. Wash only full loads of dishes in your dishwasher.
3. Wash your clothes in cold water and hang them to dry.
4. Use a microwave or toaster oven when cooking smaller items.
5. Lower the temperature on your hot water heater and turn if off when you're leaving for extended periods of time.
6. Install energy efficient light bulbs.
7. Install low-flow shower heads and consider taking shorter showers.
8. Replace any old appliances (especially refrigerators) with new energy efficient models.
9. During cooler weather, open south-facing window coverings (drapes, blinds, etc.) during the day to let heat in.
10. Shut off lights, computers, and other appliances when you're not using them.
